The Healing Power of a Smile

In the infusion room studying to become an American... and forcing a smile  The Healing Power of a Smile. Illuminating Moments of Strength Amidst Darkness Throughout the darkest moments of my battle with metastatic breast cancer, I discovered the transformative impact of both giving and receiving smiles. the simple act of smiling became a source of both personal healing and profound support from those around me.   Smiling as a Personal Health Benefit: When soaking wet from the rain, smile . Smiling is one of the simplest things that we can do to positively impact mental and physical health.  Many scientific studies p rove the connection between smiling and the release of endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin, which promote well-being. I will not go into technical explanations, but I encourage you to research this topic. Simply put, when you smile you send a message to the brain saying that “things are good”, this triggers the release of all those hormones and feel-good c...

Let her do "HER THING" (Earthing... aka Grounding)

Amongst some of the most interesting things I have learned while studying at IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition) is a practice called Earthing (also known as Grounding) I recently spent a month in the Italian Alps and during the trip, I decided to try it! I was surrounded by green pastures, lush flora, and freshwater streams, with the added surprise of a few shy wild animals here and there. Although it rained for almost the entire time I was there, it became a cherished daily routine during my stay. I loved doing it and felt its benefits right away. There is something about being in “contact” with nature that is almost indescribable. Earthing is simply connecting the body with the energy of the ground. I did it by walking barefoot on green-grass fields. But any other way to connect your bare skin to the Earth's surface works. You can sit or lie down on the ground, touch a plant, hug a tree, etc. If you are not near a place where this can be easily done, on the market ther...

Thank God for Breast Cancer!

My story starts in Italy…I was born and raised there. ln my late teen years I decided to come to the States to learn English...it was love at first sight! My life has been one of curiosity, travel, and discovery…I lived in Italy, Lebanon, and Switzerland. In the US I have lived in Boston, Tucson, and New York City. Yes Tucson…quite random, I know!  but what an experience.   To this day, nothing fascinates me more than the Sonora Desert’s night or cacti in bloom! I finally landed in New York where I have built the last 24 years of my life! I dove into the excitement and energy (and rat race) of the city that doesn’t sleep and loved it. However, the most "interesting" part of my life started in 2010 after an aggressive metastatic breast cancer diagnosis. Yes, it was scary….scary as hell! But also, the best thing that could have happened to me. Not once did I ask, “Why me?” but rather “How do I get passed it”….and passed it I went! After a series of surgeries (including ...
